If you like puzzles or bar bets, then here are a couple of good ones for you. They are both guaranteed to mystify and amuse and will go down equally well at a party or in your local pub.

SWEET SIXTEEN
STEP 1
Ask a member of the audience to take the four fives from a pack of cards. Then challenge them to arrange the four cards so that exactly sixteen ‘spots’ are showing.
STEP 2
They will spend ages trying to solve this mystery but the answer is simple. Just lay out the cards as in Fig. 1.

FLIPPING HARD
STEP 1
Place three glasses on the table, two facing up and one down as shown in Fig. 1. Challenge a volunteer to get all three glasses face down, turning two at a time and using exactly three moves.
STEP 2
It won’t be long before they give up and beg you for the answer. Well here it is: first turn 2 & 3 then 1 & 3 and then 2 & 3. Practise these moves until you can do them really fast. They won’t be able to copy you even after they have seen you do it!
